Spring 2006 Game 7

On late May afternoon that featured nearly every type of weather, the Scotch Plains Blue Sharks U14 Girls intercounty team continued their late season surge and rolled to a 5-1 victory over New Providence Saturday afternoon at Terrill Middle School.. With their third straight victory the team improved their season mark to 4-3.

Emily Cohen gave the Sharks a quick lead when her high shot eluded the goalie. After the visitors tied the score, Alyssa Young scored on a hard shot from 15 yards to score what proved to be the winning goal.

Leading 2-1 at halftime the Sharks exploded in the second half Lauren Berk, normally a defensive player, scored two close range goals giving her three scores in the past three games.

Young completed the scoring as the game ended in a brief wind driven downpour which scattered the spectators towards sheltered areas. Amanda Rodriguez and Melissa McKenna shared goal keeping duties.

Other standouts included Nikki Hodulik, Sarah Lazarus, Sarah Weber, Jessica DiGiacomo, Rebecca DiGiacomo, Annie Rubin, Jessica Feeley, Erin Brown and.. Dominique Osterman.

Spring 2006 Game 6

On another beautiful May afternoon, the Scotch Plains Blue Sharks U14 Girls intercounty team several firsts as they parlayed two early goals into a hard fought 2-0 victory over Cranford Saturday afternoon at Hillside Avenue Middle School in Cranford.

The victory improved their record to 3-3, the first time this season they have reached the .500 mark. It was also their first victory away from Scotch Plains this spring.

Kara Gaynor redirected Amanda Rodriguez’ cross with her left foot to provide the only offense needed in the game’s tenth minute. Jessica DiGiacomo added breathing room with a 30 yard shot late in the first half and Gaynor and Melissa McKenna combined for the shutout.

Other standouts included Lauren Berk ,Nikki Hodulik, Lauren Buckley Sarah Weber, Rebecca DiGiacomo, Emily Cohen, Sarah Lazarus, Erin Brown and Alyssa Young.

Spring 2006 Game 5

On a picture perfect May afternoon, the Scotch Plains Blue Sharks U14 Girls intercounty team finally got their offense untracked and rolled to a 4-0 victory over Westfield Saturday afternoon at Terrill Middle School.

Lauren Berk, normally a defensive player, opened the scoring in the first half, followed by Giulia Mercuri, Alyssa Young and Amanda Rodriguez. Kara Gaynor and Melissa McKenna combined for the shutout. The victory raises the team’s record to 2-3.

Other standouts included Nikki Hodulik, Lauren Buckley Sarah Weber, Jessica DiGiacomo, Rebecca DiGiacomo, Emily Cohen, Jessica Feeley, Erin Brown and.. Dominique Osterman.

Game 3 Spring 2006

With a slide that Derek Jeter would have been proud of, Amanda Rodriguez was able to redirect Nikki Hodulik’s cross into the goal with six minutes left to give the Scotch Plains Blue Sharks U14 Girls intercounty team their first win of the season, 1-0 over Scotch Plains Ross, Sunday afternoon at Terrill Middle School.

The victory, which raises their record to 1-2, came after the teams battled through a scoreless tie with few scoring chances. As usual, Goalie Melissa McKenna played solidly in goal, with assistance from Rodriguez, who played goalie for 15 minutes in the second half.
Other standouts included Lauren Buckley, Lauren Berk, Sarah Lazarus, Toni Ann Capece, Sarah Weber, Annie Rubin, Jessica DiGiacomo, Rebecca DiGiacomo, Emily Cohen, Jessica Feeley, Erin Brown and Giulia Mercuri.

Standouts for the losers included former Shark Desli DeMarsico as well as Caitlin Hoynes-O’Connor, Gina Pelosi and Neha Pannuri.
