U14 Spring Game 1

With an outstanding goalie like Melissa McKenna, the Scotch Plains Blue Sharks U12 Girls intercounty team has no fear of moving up to play U14 teams. After losing their opener, April 10 at New Providence 3-1, the Sharks rode the goalkeeping of McKenna to play a 0-0 tie against the Scotch Plains U14 Armstrong team Sunday at sun drenched School One.

Although they had a distinct height disadvantage against their older rivals, the Sharks were able to seize the better chances in the first half through crisp passing and beating their opponent to loose balls. The second half was a different story as the Sharks were forced into a more defensive stance and but McKenna was up to the increased offensive pressure and made a fine diving stop with 15 minutes left to preserve the tie.

In their opener, the Sharks were able to score a late goal by Alyssa Young to break the shutout. Other standouts included Jessica DiGiacomo, Erin Brown, Lauren Berk, Amanda Rodriguez, Jessica Feeley, Kara Gaynor, Sarah Weber, Toni Ann Capece, Lauren Buckley, Emily Cohen, Rebecca DiGiacomo, Annie Rubin, Sarah Lazarus and Desli DeMarsico
